The Ghana Health and Education Initiative is a NGO based in rural Ghana. In the health sector, we work with our team of community health workers to address health issues through intervention and education with a focus on youth. Our education programs also focus on youth and include an early childhood literacy program, a library program, and a three year supplementary education program for middle school students.
In 2009, UCLA medical students in the global health selective are working to address challenges experienced by our NGO and propose a multi-year plan of action for ongoing GHEI projects. This is facilitated by the executive director of GHEI, Dr. Diana Rickard.
Opportunities for involvement include volunteering with us from home or on-site during the summer (see http://www.ghei.org/volunteer3.html). We also occasionally recruit for consultants with specialized skills. We invite you to apply to join us on-site or contact us to discuss how you can contribute from home!
